Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much stable but now it's excellent.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Nashville it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
