Unpopular opinion about Socastee

Hey, Homes are going for about $218,200 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Worth the trade-offs? Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in East area are improving. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely challenging and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
