I work in engineering and Crime rate is something to consider -Solana Beach sits at 96.7 per 100K. Poverty rate is 2.5%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $3,022/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Does this match your experience? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

I've lived in East for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- The cultural scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..
