Not sure if this has been asked before, but Crime rate is something to consider -Somers Point sits at 107.6 per 100K. Poverty rate is 8.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $277,500, which seems about average. Rent is about $1,308/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Portland about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Downtown area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Riverside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
