Somers is underrated, change my mind

So, It's a a small town city with about 8,245 people. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 8,245, Somers is a small town. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Good schools
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
Thanks in advance! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 43, moved here 11 years ago from LA. I've lived in Sunset and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 8 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
