Best things about Somerville that nobody talks about
As a 6-year resident, here are some things about Somerville that don't make it into the guides:
1. There are amazing hiking trails 20 min from downtown
2. Several hidden gem restaurants that rival big city food
3. Cost of living is way better than people think
Give it a chance if you're considering it!

I work in logistics and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 2 months.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is drive around neighborhoods at different times before committing. Makes a big difference.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. University District and Maple Heights are perfectly safe.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Oakwood. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Moved here last year. No regrets. The local food is incredible.

Coming from Atlanta, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are cheaper.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 7/10.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.
