Hi all, I'm single, late 40s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Somerville sits at 90.2 per 100K. Rent is about $1,748/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $103,869 in Somerville. The median home value here is around $403,600, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Highland area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in construction. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is tough in most areas.
