My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- The nightlife scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
