Sound Beach is underrated, change my mind

Curious what people think. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Sound Beach sits at 22.0 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Is this normal for Sound Beach? The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Riverside for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Denver about 10 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2024 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I've lived in The Heights for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The healthcare scene is improving

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.
