Best hidden gems in South Barrington

Alright, The median home value here is around $986,300, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -South Barrington sits at 19.8 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thanks in advance!

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much developing but now it's underrated.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Eastside area are solid. Kids love it here.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I love the pace of life here.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2018 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 49, moved here 7 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Old Town and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..
