Is it worth buying in South Charleston?

Hello, Median household income is $59,616, which feels about average for the area. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $59,616 in South Charleston. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Austin about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
