From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is solid

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.
