Job market in South Elgin for tech?

Hey everyone, Born and raised here. Poverty rate is 4.5%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $296,100, which seems about average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 10 years. Moved from Denver for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Bugs and humidity in summer. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to New York it's underrated.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely average and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from San Diego about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 38, moved here 4 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Greenfield and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The public transit situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
