What to expect moving to South Elgin?

I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $1,619 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
