Job market in South Farmingdale for tech?

OK so Been living here since 2015. Crime rate is something to consider -South Farmingdale sits at 119.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. Rent is about $2,642/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Let me know your thoughts. TIA! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Houston about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
