Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here?

Bought a house here in 2017 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Sunset area are average. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much competitive but now it's hit or miss.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 9 years. Moved from San Diego for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Can feel isolated. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 41, moved here 6 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Pine Hills and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The job market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 2 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..
