First post here. Military spouse here. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a small town city with about 1,274 people. Crime rate is something to consider -South Henderson sits at 1,493.6 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What do you all think? The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Eastside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in real estate here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is challenging. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- The job market scene is average
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
