Things that make South Houston unique

So, I work in construction and Median household income is $52,611, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. It's a a small town city with about 16,017 people. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Friendly people
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Limited cultural events

It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Chicago about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
