Cost of living reality check -South Lockport

Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $143,800 on average. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thanks for reading.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The weather scene is decent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Tampa about 2 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 25, moved here 13 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Midtown and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The housing market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in South area are improving. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor recreation is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in tech here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is improving. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The food scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Miami about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..
