Relocating to South Lyon, MI -pros and cons?
Hey everyone, Does this match your experience? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Denver about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The weather is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
