I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $736,900 on average. Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. Median household income is $88,313, which feels pretty solid for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for South Miami? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I've lived in Westside for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The weather scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 5 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
