Thinking about relocating to South Miami Heights from Los Angeles
Average temperature is around 75--F, so it's warm year-round. Poverty rate is 12.4%, which is around average. Median household income is $64,657, which feels about average for the area. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Raleigh it's better than expected.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for school and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The weather is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 3 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 15 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The housing market scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
