Just moved to South Milwaukee, any tips?

Hey everyone, Just moved here 7 months ago and Homes are going for about $216,400 on average. With a population of 20,547, South Milwaukee is a small town. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'm a teacher and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
