Remote worker thinking about South Milwaukee

OK so The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $216,400 on average. With a population of 20,547, South Milwaukee is a small town. The median home value here is around $216,400, which is actually reasonable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Any advice would be great. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Phoenix about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 8 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The healthcare is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely solid and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
