Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $1,334 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Chicago about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..
