Anyone else feel this way? I've been here for 19 years and Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $190,701, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,200 people. Homes are going for about $689,400 on average. You can expect to pay around $2,853 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The housing market is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 48, moved here 12 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Pine Hills and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The public transit situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor recreation is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is decent in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
No regrets on my end..
