Rent in South Riding getting crazy

First post here. I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $190,701 in South Riding. The median home value here is around $689,400, which is pretty steep. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for South Riding?

I work in real estate here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much established but now it's tough.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Seattle it's surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is decent in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 14 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The walkability is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
