Cheapest neighborhoods in South Salt Lake?

First post here. Household incomes average around $68,035 in South Salt Lake. Crime rate is something to consider -South Salt Lake sits at 800.8 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any advice would be great. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Portland about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

I work in manufacturing here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 31, moved here 14 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Uptown and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The community vibe situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
