Homes are going for about $390,400 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for South Salt Lake? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Sunset) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much affordable but now it's average.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 8 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Boston about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in South for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The traffic scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..
