Housing in South San Francisco compared to Cleveland
So, I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -South San Francisco sits at 243.2 per 100K. Household incomes average around $135,909 in South San Francisco. You can expect to pay around $2,833 for rent here. The median home value here is around $1,160,100, which is pretty steep. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 6 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 46, moved here 7 years ago from Miami. I've lived in North and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The cost of living situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Moved here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to community vibe but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
