Moving to South San Francisco with kids -good idea?
Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $135,909 in South San Francisco. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Worth the trade-offs? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Denver about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Baltimore it's solid.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 3 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
