I've lived in Greenfield for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The traffic scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Denver about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.
