What I wish I knew before living in South St. Paul
Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -South St. Paul sits at 228.3 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Tampa it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 4 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
