Why I chose South Venice over bigger cities

OK so Median household income is $72,322, which feels about average for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Has anyone dealt with this?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Denver it's better than expected.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 53, moved here 2 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Midtown and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The healthcare situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The cultural scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in real estate here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is better than expected. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Asian places. I have mixed feelings honestly.
