South Whittier is underrated, change my mind

Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -South Whittier sits at 428.9 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What do you all think? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I work in hospitality here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is excellent. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
