Moving from Memphis to South Williamsport next month

Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -South Williamsport sits at 173.1 per 100K. Rent is about $911/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $186,000 on average. Median household income is $66,810, which feels about average for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 51, moved here 6 years ago from Denver. I've lived in South and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The walkability situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
