Rent in South Zanesville getting crazy

OK so Military spouse here. With a population of 2,137, South Zanesville is a small town. The median home value here is around $80,000, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -South Zanesville sits at 389.5 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
