Random thought, Military spouse here. Rent is about $935/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $127,500 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What do you all think? The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Austin about 2 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is decent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
