Curious what people think. I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 76,025, Southfield is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,301 for rent here. The median home value here is around $226,900, which is actually reasonable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I wrong here? Thanks! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 44, moved here 8 years ago from Austin. I've lived in The Heights and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Property taxes are high
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Atlanta it's average.
