Best neighborhoods in Southfield

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $226,900, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $1,301 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Limited cultural events
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 42, moved here 3 years ago from LA. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The safety situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
