Been meaning to ask this. My partner and I are It's a a smaller city city with about 76,025 people. You can expect to pay around $1,301 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Southfield sits at 272.7 per 100K. Household incomes average around $65,848 in Southfield. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Should I be concerned? Thanks for reading. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The dating scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 6 years. Moved from Baltimore for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is decent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Not very walkable outside downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great sushi places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.
