Commute times in Southfield -how bad?

Hello, Crime rate is something to consider -Southfield sits at 272.7 per 100K. Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thoughts? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 56, moved here 9 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Springfield and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The community vibe situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

3. Growing food and restaurant scene
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The traffic situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

Coming from Tampa, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
