Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Southfield sits at 272.7 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 76,025 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cheers.

I've lived in East for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The pet-friendliness scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I work in tech here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is improving. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.
