Been living here since 2014. Crime rate is something to consider -Southfield sits at 272.7 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 76,025 people. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in West area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.
