Cheapest neighborhoods in Southside?

Hey folks, Median household income is $73,695, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $1,131/month for a decent place. With a population of 9,407, Southside is a small town. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (North) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 49, moved here 13 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in The Heights and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Summers can be brutally hot
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Phoenix it's surprisingly good.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The housing market is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
