Longtime lurker here, I'm a college student here and You can expect to pay around $1,131 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I work in government here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is challenging. No regrets on my end..

Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
