What Southside does better than anywhere else

So, My partner and I are Poverty rate is 4.2%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Southside sits at 128.4 per 100K. The median home value here is around $202,900, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 9,407, Southside is a small town. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Low taxes

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Chicago it's decent.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Thai places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is improving in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 4 years. Moved from Denver for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is average - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Limited shopping options. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
