First post here. I'm a 31-year-old writer and The median home value here is around $127,400, which is actually reasonable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in education here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is improving. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (North) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Fairview for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The pet-friendliness scene is solid
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a pharmacist and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is decent and there's always something going on.
