Moving to Spanaway -what should I know?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in energy and The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,322 people. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 37, moved here 7 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Downtown and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.
