Hi all, My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Sparta sits at 152.7 per 100K. Median household income is $60,517, which feels about average for the area. Rent is about $902/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $60,517 in Sparta. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in finance. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
